Beauty Spa:
Almost Like Home
Converted from a residential unit above a ground floor shop and salon at Sims Avenue, this spa celebrates its former life as a home. The cosy ambience is injected with elements of Peranakan craft and design, and plays with the typical aesthetics of contact points: such as the console table that is actually a reception counter.
The design was developed to be minimally disruptive to construct, instead taking advantage of the existing compartmentalisation. In consultation with a friend of the owner, who acted as a buyer of Peranakan accessories and items, the spaces were styled as modern interpretations of the richly detailed interiors of the past.
The result is a very homely feel, with treatment rooms that are simply relaxing, bathrooms that are just eccentric enough, and a reception space that feels like the sitting room of a favourite aunt.
